Occurred at 2:28pm, on May 12th, the Sichuan Earthquake took the lives of ten thousands people, and hundred thousands more of lives were fading away as time passing. This day-by-day account reveals the human face of the tragedy and chronicles the rescue work against time in 180 hours after the disaster.
As the quake struck, the epicentre, Yingxiu became a mountain of rubble overnight. Thousands of people, including many children have been trapped under ruins for days. However, the survivors did not leave their hometown, they chose to helped those in need regardless of personal danger. Not to mention the rescue corps who worked day and night just to save a single life, and the medical workers who took care of the injured ceaselessly for every survival miracle.

As historical as the Silk Road, the Ancient Tea Road, stretching over 4,000 km in China, used to be an important commercial passage for trading tea, salt and other commodities. However the once prosperous road has become deserted with the quick pace of modernization since the 1950s. Against the breathtaking scenery of the mysterious Qingzang Plateau, tea merchant Zhao Baochang organized a huge caravan composed of 99 horses and 55 herdsmen, retraced the footsteps of their ancestors and revisited this ancient pathway. During the months of travel from Yunnan to Lhasa, they have to brave the challenge of harsh weather, altitude sickness and experience life and death. As the memorable journey draws to an end at the eve of the opening of the Qingzang Railway, the ancient pathway along with hooves beats and clear bells also fade away.

Beijing is an ancient city with a history of being the capital of five feudal dynasties. Local residents in Beijing used to dwell in Hutongs and Quadrangles, one of the city's architectural heritages. But, these historical landmarks are being demolished due to industrialization and modernization.
50 years ago, Liang Si-cheng and Chen Zhan-xiang, famous architects and experts in city planning, proposed a “Liang-Chen Plan” and identified an area outside the old district for the development of the central administrative zone in order to maintain the architecture. It was not until 2004, the Government came up with a city plan named as “Two Axises, Two Zones and Multi-centers” which resembled the plan Liang and Chen proposed. It provides an ideal solution to accommodate the city’s heritages and its new development.

The last hope of Chen Jian, a victim of 5.12 Earthquake
Trapped under the rubbles for more than 70 hours, 26-year old Chen Jian thought of his wife and their yet-to-be born baby, said in a feeble but firm tone.
Rescue workers were anxious to get him out, while the reporters on site kept chatting to him to help him staying conscious. Chen was too tough to lose hope, and to everyone’s delight, after the 6-hour rescue works, he was finally set free. Although Chen was extremely weak, he murmured “thank you” to all the people around him.
While the rescue workers were carrying Chen to the nearby makeshift clinic, he stopped speaking and responding. An officer proceeded with cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately, but failed to save him. The murmur of “thank you” became his last words in this world.
The death toll of Sichuan earthquake has already rocketed to over 40000 and Chen Jian has unfortunately become one of the victims. Our reporter of “Secret Documentary” had accompanied Chen in his last hours in life and given him support throughout the rescue. “The last 79 hours of Chen Jian” is not just a documentary about the rescue works, but also a heart-wrenching story of how an ordinary man striving to survive in such devastation.
Although the story of Chen makes people sigh, it unquestionably demonstrates the virtues and unbeatable will for survival in human nature. “Secret Documentary” will keep bringing the audiences more heart-rending story from Sichuan in the other coming “5.12 Earthquake Specials”.

媲美絲綢之路的滇藏茶馬古道，是古代馬幫與藏人以茶易馬的重要的商貿驛道。隨著公路相繼落成，古道和馬幫在50年代後便漸漸煙沒於歷史中。早前四川一班由少數民族組成的馬幫，親身仿效祖先再踏古道，帶著99匹馬到拉薩見証青藏鐵路的開通。他們走過懸崖峭壁的怒江天險、踏進被草地掩蓋的沼澤、又攀上白雪皚皚的白馬雪山和穿越盛產桃花鹽的鹽井，過程驚險萬分。馬鍋頭除了舉步維艱，更要克服高原反應、惡劣天氣和種種突發事故。然而，古道壯麗如畫的風景、飄揚的七彩經幡、磕長頭朝聖的僧侶和天犬藏獒都令旅程別具韻味，目不暇給的影象充滿感染力。本片紀錄了這次出死入生的旅程，揭開古道神秘的面紗，並展示馬幫失落的傳統及沿途各村獨特的風土民情。

「5.12地震災難」遇難者陳堅的最後希望
已經被壓在多層混凝土樓板下七十多個小時的陳堅，想到他的妻子，想到他那即將出生的孩子，以虛弱但堅定的聲音如是說。
在場人士一邊和他說話打氣，一邊進行救援，經過六個小時的努力，終於把他救了出來。他氣若游絲的回應了一句：「謝謝你們。」然而，這句「謝謝」竟成永訣。
四川汶川八級大地震，奪去了四萬多條生命，廿六歲的陳堅就是其中之一。《冷暖人生》記者深入災區北川現場，由發現陳堅的一刻開始，一直伴著他，給予鼓勵，直到他走到人生盡頭，見証他對生存的希望，亦見証大地的無情。
陳堅離開的一刻，救援人員的眼眶紅了，身旁的女記者哭喊著，但無論如何哀慟，也哭不回一條曾經堅忍、曾經抱有希望的生命。雖然，現實情況令人唏噓，但人們亦會記住陳堅所曾經展現出的求生意志，更會從故事中學懂珍惜與感恩。

1949年，第一屆中央政治協商會議召開。首屆會議的正式代表中，有110多位民主人士和文化精英是從香港出發北上參加會議的。當年，他們為躲避政治迫害遠走香港，雖身處異地仍積極聲援大陸的反蔣、停戰運動。當戰爭接近尾聲時，又響應共產黨召開新政協會議、組建聯合政府的號召，在中共地下黨的協助下，秘密北上參加建國運動。北上之路困難重重，卻未動搖他們對建設祖國的熱情。
節目將以二十世紀四十年代末的香港為背景，講述從舊政協失敗到新政協召開期間的歷史，再現那段波瀾壯闊的民主運動。

「北川中學已經成為災難的代名詞，然而，北川中學還會站起來的！」「北川中學」校長 – 劉亞春
五月十一日的下午四點四川省北川中學的操場上，師生們在玩球的歡樂氛圍給老師特意帶來相機拍下，並放到博客上，但誰也沒有想到，這些照片竟然成為這所中學的最後的見證；在照片上留下笑容的孩子們，照片竟然是他們人生的最後留影。
四川大地震發生的時候，綿陽市的北川中學受到強烈震動，天花在幾秒間塌下來，磚頭和東西一層一層的壓下來，五層樓全塌在平地上，把學校裏正在上課的一千多名師生給活埋了。有幸逃出的師生們立刻在廢堆重展開救援，徒手扒開可以搬得動的石頭進行拯救。校長和有些老師不顧自己身在險境的孩子，先搶救他們視如己出的學生們，以自己孩子的性命換別人的存活；也有老師不顧自己生命安全，放棄逃生的機會，用盡最後一口氣，以自己的生命燃點無數學生的未來。
原來有兩千八百多個學生、兩百位老師的北川中學，在這場災難後只剩下大約一千一百個學生，不到一百位老師。然而在傷痛過後，北川中學不單學會堅強，勇氣、愛和感恩，這段經歷也會為他們的未來人生帶來無比的力量。
